The New Renault Duster : Renault Duster is a name every Indian SUV buyer remembers. Once the pioneer of the compact SUV space, it disappeared from showrooms in 2022, leaving a gap for buyers who wanted something rugged yet affordable. Now, the all-new third-generation Duster has arrived, and it comes across as far more than just a family SUV.

This new model has been designed as a true lifestyle companion. Its muscular stance, higher ground clearance, and all-road drive modes make it equally at home in the city or on rough terrain. Whether it’s the daily school run, a road trip through the hills, or a weekend of camping, the Duster is built to adapt. Renault has added clever details like modular roof bars that double up as cross rails, a YouClip system inside the cabin for attaching accessories, and even an outdoor pack with a full camping tent and fold-out bed.

At the same time, the Duster doesn’t compromise on modern comforts. The cabin gets a driver-focused layout, a 10-inch infotainment system, wireless smartphone connectivity, configurable digital cluster, and features like wireless charging, dual-zone climate control, and heated seats on higher trims. Families will also appreciate the versatile boot, split-level storage, and thoughtful touches like USB-C charging points and rear AC vents.

It’s also safer and more advanced than ever before, with six airbags, stability control, emergency braking, lane-keep assist, blind spot detection, and multiple camera systems for both city parking and off-road visibility. The range of hybrid and mild-hybrid engines adds efficiency without diluting the Duster’s tough character, while 4×4 variants keep its go-anywhere spirit alive.

For Indian buyers, Renault has already confirmed the Duster’s comeback by 2026. And when it does arrive, it promises to be more than just a mid-size SUV — it aims to be a lifestyle vehicle that blends ruggedness, versatility, technology, and safety in a way few rivals can match.

Exterior Design (Global Duster Highlights & India Take)

The new Renault Duster (sold internationally as the Dacia Duster) carries forward its iconic SUV stance with bold proportions, a flat bonnet, and a wide, upright grille that immediately project strength. The signature Y-shaped LED lighting at the front and rear gives it a modern identity while retaining the rugged personality that made the Duster popular.

To enhance its outdoor-ready character, Renault has introduced Starkle® cladding around the wheel arches and side panels. This innovative, scratch-resistant material not only protects against scrapes in daily use but also reinforces the SUV’s off-road toughness.

Practicality has been built into the design as well. Roof bars are standard across the range, while the Extreme trim takes it a step further with modular roof rails that can be reconfigured crosswise to carry bikes, camping gear, or additional luggage.

The wheel design varies by trim, adding both style and functionality:

  • Essential: 16-inch steel wheels for a clean, durable look.
  • Expression: 17-inch diamond-cut alloys for a sharper appearance.
  • Journey: 18-inch Tagasan diamond-cut alloys that maximize road presence.
  • Extreme: 17-inch semi-diamond cut alloys, finished with unique copper accents that match other exterior highlights.

India Take: Expect Renault to offer the Y-shaped LEDs and 17-inch alloys as standard from mid-trims onwards, while modular roof bars and copper-accented wheels may remain exclusive to top-spec models in the India launch of the Renault Duster 2025.

Interior Experience (Global Trims vs India Possibility)

Step inside the new Renault Duster (internationally badged as Dacia Duster), and it is immediately clear that the SUV has moved upmarket without losing its practical DNA. The cabin is designed to be both functional and inviting, blending ruggedness with everyday comfort.

The dashboard layout is simple but driver-focused, with a 10-inch central touchscreen (from the Expression trim onwards) slightly tilted towards the driver for better ergonomics. Higher trims also get a 7-inch configurable digital cluster, bringing a modern cockpit feel.

Renault has paid attention to materials and finishes, which vary depending on the trim. The Expression trim features denim-style upholstery, while the Extreme trim stands out with washable MicroCloud fabric and copper accent detailing across the dashboard and doors. These touches give the interior a more youthful and lifestyle-oriented appeal, while also ensuring durability for daily use and outdoor adventures.

Comfort by Trim Levels

  • Essential: Basic but practical, offering manual air-conditioning, durable upholstery, and an analogue instrument cluster.
  • Expression: Adds more convenience with rear power windows, front armrest storage, and improved upholstery.
  • Journey: Significantly upgrades comfort with dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, a wireless charger, and a split boot floor for flexible storage.
  • Extreme: Designed for adventure and colder climates, this trim offers heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, lumbar support for the driver, and rugged rubber mats for easy cleaning after off-road use.

India Take: Renault India is likely to prioritise the Expression and Journey trims for launch, offering features like the 10-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay, wireless charging, and dual-zone climate control. Heated seats and a heated steering wheel may not make it to the India lineup, but expect durable upholstery, copper accents on higher trims, and rear armrest storage to appeal to urban families.

India Take: Expect Renault India to standardize 6 airbags, ESC, and ADAS basics (AEBS, lane keep assist, fatigue detection) from the base variant. Features like the 10-inch Media Display, dual-zone climate control, Arkamys 3D sound, keyless entry, and wireless charger are likely for mid and top trims. Heated seats, heated steering, and copper-accent upholstery are unlikely, but modular roof bars and premium alloy designs could appear in higher variants.

Spaciousness & Practicality (International Model & India Take)

The new Renault Duster has been designed to be both family-friendly and adventure-ready. The boot space is generous, offering 478 litres in 4×2 versions and 414 litres in 4×4 models, expandable to over 1,500 litres with the rear seats folded. This makes it versatile enough for everyday groceries, long road trips, or outdoor gear.

A clever addition is the YouClip system, which provides multiple fixed points inside the cabin where accessories like tablet holders, wireless chargers, bag hooks, or even a 3-in-1 cup holder can be mounted. This modularity ensures the interior can adapt to different lifestyles, from daily commuting to weekend family outings.

For outdoor enthusiasts, Renault also offers the InNature pack, which transforms the Duster into a camping companion with a tailgate tent, fold-out bed, blackout blinds, and roof rack capable of carrying up to 80 kg.

India Take: With boot space on par with Creta and Seltos, the Duster stands strong in practicality. The YouClip accessory system could become a real USP if introduced here, while the camping kit is less likely but would appeal to lifestyle buyers in the Renault Duster India launch.

Engine Options (Global Specs & India Launch Expectations)

EngineFuel/TypePowerTorqueDriveGearboxMileage (approx.)
Bi-Fuel 100Petrol + LPG, 1.0L100 hp160–170 Nm4×26MT~14.9 km/l (LPG) / ~18.2 km/l (petrol)
Mild Hybrid 1301.2L petrol + 48V130 hp230 Nm4×2 / 4×46MT~19.5–21.7 km/l
Mild Hybrid 130 4×41.2L petrol + 48V130 hp230 Nm4×46MT~19.5 km/l
Full Hybrid 1401.6L petrol + 230V140 hp148 Nm4×2Auto (4+2)~23.3 km/l

India Take:

  • The Bi-Fuel 100 (LPG + petrol) is unlikely to be offered in India.
  • The Mild Hybrid 130 is the most realistic candidate for our market, especially in 4×2 form as the core engine.
  • The Full Hybrid 140 automatic could be positioned as a premium variant, catering to urban buyers looking for efficiency and smooth driving.
  • If Renault decides to bring the Mild Hybrid 130 AWD (4×4), it would stand out as one of the very few compact SUVs in India with a true hybrid-assisted 4×4 system, giving the Duster a unique edge over Creta, Seltos, and Grand Vitara.

Driving Pleasure & Off-road Tech (Global Features & India Relevance)

The new Renault Duster has been engineered for real SUV ability, offering up to 217 mm ground clearance and an impressive 31° approach angle on 4×4 variants. Drivers get a multi-mode selector with dedicated settings for snow, mud, and sand, while the all-road info display shows slope angles and torque distribution in real time. Features like a multiview camera, Hill Descent Control, and Hill Start Assist further enhance confidence both on rough trails and in city conditions.

India Take: If Renault brings the 4×4 version, the Duster will be one of the few SUVs in its class with genuine off-road capability. A Renault Duster 4×4 India launch could give it a unique edge over rivals like Creta and Seltos.

Colour Options (Global Palette & Likely India Choices)

  • Glacier White, Shadow Grey, Dusty Khaki (basic trims)
  • Premium Metallics: Sandstone, Terracotta, Pearl Black, Cedar Green

India Take: Renault India may keep 5–6 shades, with dual-tone options reserved for higher trims when the Renault Duster 2025 launches in India.

Dimensions (Global vs Expected India Spec)

  • Length: 4,343 mm
  • Width: 1,813 mm
  • Height: 1,573–1,574 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,657 mm
  • Ground clearance: 209 mm (4×2) / 217 mm (4×4)

India Take: Slightly smaller than Creta in length, but with better ground clearance, the Duster’s proportions should appeal to Indian SUV buyers who want both city usability and rugged stance.

Renault Duster India Launch Timeline & Pricing (2025–26)

Renault has officially confirmed that the new Duster will be the first of its three upcoming models for India, with a launch timeline targeted around 2026. While final specifications are yet to be revealed, pricing strategy can be speculated.

The Mild Hybrid 130 with manual transmission is expected to start at ₹11–14 lakh (ex-showroom), competing directly with the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos petrol trims. The Full Hybrid 140 automatic is likely to sit in the ₹14–17 lakh range, appealing to urban buyers much like the Maruti Grand Vitara Hybrid and Toyota Hyryder.

If Renault introduces the Mild Hybrid 130 AWD (4×4), pricing could stretch to ₹16–18 lakh, positioning the Duster as one of the very few compact SUVs in India to combine hybrid efficiency with genuine 4×4 hardware.

Key Rivals: Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, and Skoda Kushaq. The Duster’s mix of rugged character, hybrid efficiency, and possible AWD could carve out a unique niche in the highly competitive mid-size SUV space.

Motors77 Verdict: The Duster’s Return

The return of the Renault Duster is more than just another SUV launch — it’s the revival of a name that once redefined what Indian buyers expected from a mid-size SUV. Over the years, the Duster built a reputation for toughness, dependability, and the confidence to go places where rivals hesitated. The new generation takes that legacy forward, but with a sharper design, smarter technology, and a broader lifestyle appeal that makes it just as relevant for today’s families as it is for adventure seekers.

For India, the Duster’s comeback feels timely. The market is crowded, but very few SUVs combine rugged character with everyday usability in a way that truly connects with buyers. If Renault manages to deliver even part of what the international model promises, the Duster could once again find itself in a sweet spot — not just as a vehicle, but as a trusted companion for Indian roads and Indian journeys.

For many, the Duster won’t just be a car; it will be the return of an old friend.
