Tata Motors Sets New Sales Record in September 2025 with 60,907 Sales : Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd. has achieved a historic milestone in September 2025, registering its highest-ever monthly sales in the passenger vehicle (PV) segment. The company sold 60,907 units, including both domestic and export markets, representing a 47% year-on-year increase compared to September 2024. Domestic sales stood at 59,667 units, while PV IB (International Business) contributed 1,240 units, reflecting Tata’s expanding global footprint.

This growth was fueled by strong SUV demand, record-breaking performance in the electric vehicle (EV) and CNG segments, and a festive push driven by GST 2.0 benefits combined with Navratri momentum.

Segment Highlights

Electric Vehicles (EVs)

Tata Motors’ EV portfolio continued to strengthen its dominance in the Indian market. September sales stood at 9,191 units, almost double compared to the same month last year, reflecting a 96% growth. In Q2 FY26, Tata sold 24,855 EVs, registering a 59% year-on-year increase, the highest quarterly EV sales ever recorded by the company. EVs contributed nearly 17% of total PV sales, underlining their growing importance in Tata’s strategy. Models like the Nexon EV, Tiago EV, Tigor EV, and Punch EV have played a key role in achieving this milestone.

CNG Vehicles

CNG models achieved a new benchmark with 17,800+ units sold in Q2 FY26, more than double the previous year, marking 105% growth. Rising fuel prices and the affordability of CNG variants are pushing more customers to opt for these vehicles, making Tata one of the leaders in this category.

SUV Strength

The Nexon achieved record sales of over 22,500 units in September, setting a new all-time high for any Tata passenger vehicle in a single month. The Harrier and Safari also delivered their best-ever combined monthly sales, boosted by the Adventure X edition and a wider choice of powertrains. Meanwhile, the Punch maintained its popularity, consolidating Tata’s position in the competitive compact SUV segment.

Exports (PV IB)

Tata’s international business (PV IB) saw significant growth in September. Exports stood at 1,240 units, a 396% increase year-on-year. For Q2 FY26, exports totaled 4,208 units, a massive 411% growth compared to the same period last year. The company also marked its entry into South Africa, highlighting its ambition to strengthen its international presence alongside domestic dominance.

Festive and Policy Boost

The rollout of GST 2.0 has improved vehicle affordability, giving the entire auto industry a boost. Combined with the festive tailwinds of Navratri, Tata Motors saw record dealer retails across categories. SUVs witnessed more than 60% growth in customer deliveries, while demand for CNG and EVs surged further, driven by attractive pricing and festive discounts.

Management Comment

Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles Ltd., said:

“In September, we achieved our highest-ever monthly passenger vehicle sales of 60,907 units, a 47% growth compared to the same month last year. EV sales nearly doubled, CNG volumes hit record highs, and Nexon set a new industry benchmark with over 22,500 units sold in a single month. The festive momentum and GST 2.0 benefits have strengthened demand, and with a robust booking pipeline, we are well-positioned for sustained growth in the coming months.”

Motors77 Analysis

Tata Motors’ performance in September 2025 reaffirms its leadership in the Indian passenger vehicle market. Crossing the 60,000-unit milestone in a single month with 47% growth highlights the strength of its diverse portfolio across SUVs, EVs, and CNG variants.

The Nexon continues to be Tata’s star performer, EV sales are growing faster than the industry average, and CNG is rapidly gaining traction as a mass-market alternative. Exports under PV IB are also scaling up, especially with Tata’s entry into new markets like South Africa. With festive demand expected to continue in the coming quarter, Tata is poised to build on this record-setting momentum and consolidate its market share even further.
