The Maserati GT2 Stradale is now officially on sale in India at Rs 5.72 crore (ex-showroom), and it instantly becomes the most powerful road going Maserati with an internal combustion engine that Indian buyers can put in their garage. This is not a cosmetic special edition. It is the road legal sibling of the GT2 race car that Maserati campaigns in the Fanatec GT2 European Series, built on the same carbon fibre monocoque, carrying the same suspension geometry, and wearing a rear wing that generates serious downforce at speed.

It also comes with a number that matters to collectors: only 914 units will be built worldwide, a direct reference to 1914, the year Maserati was founded.

Where the Maserati GT2 Stradale Comes From

To understand this car, start on the racetrack rather than the showroom floor. When Maserati began developing the MC20, it had already decided to return to racing. That decision produced the GT2 race car, which debuted at the final round of the 2023 Fanatec GT2 European Series at Paul Ricard and finished on the podium straight away.

Its first full season in 2024 was even more convincing. According to Maserati’s press kit, the GT2 collected the Am class drivers’ title with Philippe Prette, the teams’ title with LP Racing, 16 pole positions and 12 race wins.

The Maserati GT2 Stradale is the road going result of that programme. Maserati developed both cars in parallel, with the same engineering team sharing know how and several components. Plenty of supercars borrow racing imagery. Very few are developed alongside a race car that wins championships.

Maserati GT2 Stradale Engine and Performance

At the heart of the car is the Nettuno, a 90 degree V6 designed and built in house in Modena. Here it produces 640 CV, which is 10 CV more than the MC20, thanks to electronic fine tuning, revised turbochargers and exhaust manifolds for higher boost, and a lower back pressure exhaust.

The engine keeps Maserati’s Twin Combustion system, a pre chamber layout with twin spark plugs derived from Formula 1 technology, combined with dual direct and indirect fuel injection.

Engine SpecificationMaserati GT2 Stradale
Layout90 degree V6, dry sump, twin turbo
Displacement3,000 cc
Bore x Stroke88 mm x 82 mm
Compression ratio11:1
Maximum power640 CV (631 hp / 471 kW) at 7,500 rpm
Peak torque720 Nm at 3,000 to 5,500 rpm
Transmission8 speed oil immersed dual clutch
WLTC fuel consumption11.6 L/100 km
WLTC CO2 emissions265 g/km

One detail is worth noting. The GT2 Stradale produces 720 Nm, which is 10 Nm less than the 730 Nm of the MC20, even though peak power is higher. The tuning clearly favours top end delivery, which suits circuit use where the engine lives near the redline. Gear change times on the dual clutch transmission have also been shortened.

With 640 CV and a dry weight of 1,365 kg, the car reaches 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and tops out at 324 km/h. Maserati also states it beat the MC20’s lap time on the Misto Alfa track at Balocco by over five seconds.

Aerodynamics: Where the Maserati GT2 Stradale Truly Separates Itself

The engine upgrade is modest. The aerodynamic upgrade is not. The figures below come from Maserati’s published aerodynamic data.

Downforce at 280 km/hFrontRearTotal
Maserati GT2 Stradale (high drag wing setting)130 kg370 kg500 kg
Maserati MC2035 kg110 kg145 kg

That is roughly three and a half times the downforce of the standard car. The key contributors are:

  • Boomerang rear wing: A carbon fibre wing with built in endplates on solid aluminium pylons, manually adjustable across three settings.
  • GT2 derived bonnet: Hot air from the central radiator exits over the bonnet, adding front load to balance the wing.
  • Wider “shark nose” front: A broader opening with a carbon fibre bumper and large splitter.
  • Redesigned rear diffuser: More aggressive geometry accelerates underbody airflow.
  • Revised rear intakes: Enlarged intakes raise cold air flow to the engine and radiators by 16 percent.

Maserati says the added downforce has only a small effect on top speed, thanks to careful work on drag.

Chassis, Suspension and Brakes

The car uses the same carbon fibre monocoque as the GT2 race car and the MC20 family, with a stiffer chassis configuration and 40:60 front to rear weight distribution. Suspension geometry comes directly from the track car, retaining double wishbones with UNIBAL joints, while steering gets a dedicated racing calibration. A button on the drive mode selector softens the dampers in Sport or Corsa, useful on uneven surfaces.

Brembo developed a new braking system specifically for this car, with larger, thicker discs and additional cooling ducts. The 20 inch single nut forged wheels from the race car save around 19 kg, wearing 245/35 R20 tyres at the front and 305/30 R20 at the rear.

Importantly for Indian roads, a front lift system raises the nose by 35 mm. Maserati lists it as an on demand option in various markets, so buyers should confirm it in their specification.

Performance Packs and Drive Modes

The car offers four drive modes: Wet, GT (default at start up), Sport and Corsa. Two performance upgrades are available, as detailed in Maserati’s press kit.

FeaturePerformance PackPerformance Pack Plus
Michelin semi slick tyresYesYes
Electronic limited slip differential (e-LSD)YesYes
Carbon ceramic racing brakesYesYes
Specific ESC, MSP and ABS calibrationYesYes
Corsa Evo drive modeYesYes
Four point harnesses with fixing bracketNoYes
Fire extinguisherNoYes

Corsa Evo is the standout. Derived from the race car, it offers four levels of electronic intervention, adjusting traction control, stability control, the e-LSD and ABS together, so a driver can reduce the safety net as confidence grows on a circuit.

Inside the Cabin

The interior balances race car purpose with everyday usability. Anti glare Alcantara with blue stitching covers the cabin, and the carbon fibre monocoque is left exposed in the footwell. Highlights include:

  • Carbon fibre bucket seats developed with Sabelt, available in two sizes for the driver
  • A thicker Alcantara steering wheel with nine LED shift lights
  • A lighter, redesigned central tunnel with racing inspired yellow accents
  • Twin 10.25 inch displays running Maserati Intelligent Assistant, with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and track focused Performance Pages
  • Sonus faber audio, with a 12 speaker, 695 watt system optional
  • A numbered “1 of 914” badge on the central tunnel

Butterfly doors, a 100 litre boot, cameras, parking sensors and driver assistance systems keep it usable beyond the track.

Maserati GT2 Stradale Price in India and Its Place in the Line Up

The Maserati GT2 Stradale arrived alongside a refreshed Maserati range at the same 30 October launch event.

Maserati Model (India)Starting Price (ex-showroom)
Grecale faceliftRs 1.14 crore
GranTurismo (2027 update)Rs 2.62 crore
GranCabrio (2027 update)Rs 2.91 crore
MCPuraRs 4.35 crore
GT2 StradaleRs 5.72 crore

It commands a Rs 1.37 crore premium over the MCPura coupe, which shares the core mechanical package with 630 CV. On paper, that buys only 10 extra CV. In reality, it buys 355 kg more downforce at 280 km/h, race derived suspension geometry, new Brembo brakes, forged wheels, Corsa Evo access and global production capped at 914 cars.

Why Does This Matter?

India’s track culture is still small. The country has only a handful of proper circuits, such as the Buddh International Circuit, the Madras International Circuit and Kari Motor Speedway. That naturally limits how many Indian owners will ever use the GT2 Stradale as intended. Its role here is that of a halo car, signalling Maserati’s racing credibility while the GranTurismo, GranCabrio, Grecale and MCPura carry sales volume.

Exclusivity is the real draw. With only 914 units worldwide, India’s allocation will be tiny. For many buyers, the appeal lies in owning a numbered car with a direct link to a championship winning race programme, something few supercars at this price can claim.

Indian roads raise practical questions. A low, stiffly sprung car with a large splitter faces speed breakers and broken surfaces daily. The 35 mm front lift should be treated as a must have rather than an extra.

Running costs are part of the deal. Semi slick tyres, carbon ceramic brakes and an 11.6 L/100 km WLTC figure (roughly 8.6 km per litre under test conditions) mean ownership is about passion, not economy.

Quick Pros & Cons

2. How many units of the Maserati GT2 Stradale will be made? Production is limited to 914 units worldwide, a tribute to Maserati’s founding year of 1914.

3. How is the Maserati GT2 Stradale different from the MCPura? It trades a small power gain for far more downforce, race derived suspension, new Brembo brakes and forged single nut wheels.

4. Is the Maserati GT2 Stradale usable on Indian roads? Yes, with care. The optional 35 mm front lift and a damper comfort setting help on speed breakers and broken surfaces.

5. What is Corsa Evo mode? A race derived mode, available only with the Performance Packs, offering four levels of electronic assistance.

6. Does the Maserati GT2 Stradale come with all wheel drive? No. Power goes only to the rear wheels through an 8 speed dual clutch gearbox.

Motors77 Verdict

The Maserati GT2 Stradale is the purest expression of what the MC20 project was always meant to become. Its power gain is small, but that was never the point. The real story is aerodynamics, chassis hardware and a direct engineering link to a championship winning race car, in a body that can still be registered for public roads.

At Rs 5.72 crore, it is not a rational purchase, and Maserati is not pretending otherwise. For the few Indian buyers who secure one of the 914 cars, it offers genuine racing pedigree and true exclusivity. For everyone else, the MCPura remains the smarter road car. But as a statement of what Modena can still do, the Maserati GT2 Stradale is the most compelling Maserati on sale in India today.
