Yamaha Aerox E and EC 06 have officially debuted in India, marking the brand’s entry into the fast-growing electric scooter market. These two EVs aim to blend Yamaha’s sporty DNA with modern electric performance for Indian riders.

Yamaha has finally made its long awaited move into India’s electric two wheeler space with the global reveal of the Aerox E and EC 06. Both scooters mark the beginning of a new chapter for the brand known for performance and reliability. The company has played it smart, entering the EV race with two models aimed at very different audiences. The Aerox E focuses on sporty performance while the EC 06 targets city commuters who value practicality and long range.

This launch is not just another electric scooter story. It signals that Yamaha is ready to compete seriously with homegrown players like Ola, Ather, and TVS. But does Yamaha’s late entry have enough punch to make an impact?

Aerox E: Yamaha’s First Performance Electric Scooter

The Aerox E is the louder, more dramatic of the two. It inherits the same bold design and aggressive character from the petrol powered Aerox 155 but trades its engine for a high output electric motor. Yamaha says it wants to bring its “sporty DNA” into the electric era, and the Aerox E seems built exactly for that.

Power comes from a 9.4 kW motor producing around 12.6 horsepower and 48 Nm of torque. Those figures are among the highest in the Indian EV scooter space. The setup uses dual 3 kWh removable lithium ion battery packs, giving a total capacity of about 6 kWh. Yamaha claims a range of 106 km per charge under the Indian Driving Cycle. Riders can switch between Eco, Standard, Power, and a Boost mode for quick bursts of acceleration.

The scooter uses telescopic front suspension, twin rear shocks, and disc brakes at both ends with single channel ABS. There is a fully digital TFT display with Y Connect app support, full LED lighting, and Bluetooth based connectivity for trip data and diagnostics.

Expected pricing is around 2.8 to 3 lakh rupees ex showroom, making it one of the most premium electric scooters to be sold in India. Launch is expected in early 2026.

EC 06: A Smart, Practical Electric for Everyday Riders

While the Aerox E screams performance, the EC 06 speaks practicality. This one is designed for the daily commuter who wants Yamaha reliability in an electric format. Developed in partnership with Bengaluru based River Mobility, the EC 06 aims to balance cost, range, and convenience.

The scooter features a 4.5 kW motor with a 6.7 kW peak output and a fixed 4 kWh battery. Yamaha claims a class leading 160 km range on a full charge. Top speed is expected around 90 km per hour, making it capable for both city use and short highway runs.

Charging time stands at roughly five to six hours using a standard home charger. There is a large 24.5 liter under seat storage area, LED lights, and a smart LCD display with Y Connect features. The expected price range is between 1.5 and 1.6 lakh rupees ex showroom.

If Yamaha can deliver on these numbers, the EC 06 could become a major player in the mid range EV segment currently dominated by Ather and TVS.

Yamaha’s Strategy and Market Context

Yamaha has clearly studied India’s EV market before jumping in. Instead of chasing volume with a cheap electric scooter, it is starting from the top of the segment. This mirrors Yamaha’s earlier approach with models like the FZ and Aerox 155, which built brand loyalty before scaling up.

The strategy makes sense. Yamaha’s biggest advantage lies in its reputation for long term durability, something still missing from many new EV startups. If it can deliver a well built scooter with strong after sales service and battery reliability, Yamaha could quickly gain trust in this competitive space.

However, the company faces challenges too. Setting up charging networks, training EV technicians, and ensuring spare parts availability across India will take time. Expect the scooters to launch first in metro cities before reaching smaller towns.

Who Should Buy Them

The Aerox E suits riders who crave power and design flair. If you are upgrading from a 150 cc petrol scooter and want something quick and premium, this one fits the bill.

The EC 06, on the other hand, is ideal for urban commuters and professionals who prioritize efficiency and range over outright speed. It offers long range peace of mind, low running costs, and the comfort of Yamaha’s build quality.

Expert Analysis

Yamaha’s twin EV strategy is smart but ambitious. The Aerox E may attract enthusiasts, though its price could limit sales. The EC 06 has broader appeal thanks to its practicality and impressive range. Together, they signal that Yamaha wants to shape rather than chase the EV market.

From a rider’s perspective, these scooters bring credibility and confidence to a space often dominated by startups. Yamaha’s entry could push existing players to raise their standards in quality and service, benefiting buyers across the board.

Motors77 Verdict

The Yamaha Aerox E and EC 06 show that the brand is serious about the future of electric mobility in India. The Aerox E offers excitement and style, while the EC 06 promises range and reliability. Both bring Yamaha’s engineering precision into a segment that has been waiting for a global name to raise the bar.

If priced right and supported by a strong service network, these two scooters could easily become the most trusted new EVs on Indian roads.
