Mahindra has officially pulled the covers off its next big move in the premium SUV space. The XUV700 one of India’s most celebrated SUVs since its 2021 debut is getting a comprehensive makeover and a new identity. Say hello to the Mahindra XUV 7XO.

The world premiere is locked in for January 5, 2026, with pricing and booking details expected on the same day. This isn’t just a mid-cycle refresh; Mahindra has confirmed that the XUV 7XO will completely replace the outgoing XUV700, which means production of the current model ends once the new one arrives.

Mahindra XUV 7XO: A Fresh Face with Familiar DNA

The XUV 7XO’s design evolution is immediately apparent from Mahindra’s official teaser footage. The front fascia gets a substantial rework with dual-pod LED headlamps featuring distinctive 7-shaped daytime running lights a design signature that frames the headlight cluster with trapezoidal LED units. It’s a more sophisticated look that brings the XUV into visual alignment with Mahindra’s electric vehicle lineup.

The signature grille has been reimagined with a blacked-out background and silver slats, maintaining that unmistakable Mahindra identity while feeling decidedly more premium. Around the back, the XUV 7XO borrows its LED tail lamp design from the recently launched XEV 9S, complete with a full-width light bar connecting both units. New alloy wheel designs round out the exterior changes, though Mahindra hasn’t confirmed specific sizes yet.

The Cabin Gets a Tech Overhaul

Step inside and you’ll find the most significant transformation. Spy shots have confirmed that the XUV 7XO adopts a triple-screen dashboard layout a setup that mirrors what Mahindra offers in its electric SUVs. This arrangement includes a digital instrument cluster, central infotainment touchscreen, and a dedicated passenger display, all integrated into a sleek single panel. While most reports suggest all three screens measure 12.3 inches, some sources indicate the driver display may be slightly smaller at 10.25 inches. We’ll have clarity on January 5th.

The steering wheel gets an upgrade too, with a new two-spoke design featuring an illuminated Twin Peaks logo a subtle but premium touch that elevates the cabin ambiance. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay carry over from the current model, ensuring seamless smartphone connectivity remains standard.

On the audio front, higher variants are expected to feature a Harman Kardon sound system, potentially with Dolby Atmos support a feature currently offered on the XEV 9S. However, Mahindra hasn’t officially confirmed the speaker count or exact specifications for the XUV 7XO.

Comfort That Punches Above Its Price

The XUV 7XO is expected to continue offering both 6-seater and 7-seater configurations, catering to different family needs. Reports suggest Mahindra is adding ventilated captain seats for second-row passengers in the 6-seater variant a notable upgrade since the current XUV700 limits ventilation to the front seats only.

Industry sources also indicate that front-row massage functionality and sliding middle-row seats could make the cut, though these remain unconfirmed until the official launch. What we do know is that multi-zone climate control carries over, keeping all occupants comfortable regardless of where they’re seated.

Proven Powertrains, No Surprises

Under the hood, the XUV 7XO sticks with what works. Both engine options carry over unchanged from the current model a sensible decision given how well-received these powertrains have been.

The 2.0-litre mStallion turbocharged petrol engine delivers 200 PS of power and 380 Nm of torque, offering spirited performance for those who prefer petrol refinement. It pairs with either a 6-speed manual or 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Diesel buyers get the 2.2-litre mHawk engine in two states of tune. The base configuration produces 155 PS and 360 Nm, available exclusively with the manual gearbox. Step up to the higher tune and you get 185 PS with 420 Nm on the manual or 450 Nm on the automatic figures that deliver genuine punch for highway overtakes and loaded drives.

The diesel automatic variant also retains the optional all-wheel-drive system, providing added confidence for those who venture beyond tarmac or simply want the security of AWD in challenging weather conditions. Petrol variants remain front-wheel-drive only.

Safety Credentials That Should Carry Forward

The original XUV700 earned 5 stars for adult protection in Global NCAP testing, plus the coveted “Safer Choice” Award. Since the XUV 7XO shares its platform with the outgoing model, these safety credentials are expected to carry over.

The Level-2 ADAS suite should remain intact with adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, automatic emergency braking, and forward collision warning. Higher variants are expected to retain the 360-degree camera, while airbag count likely mirrors the current setup six standard on most variants, seven on top trims.

What About Pricing?

This is where we need to temper expectations. Mahindra has explicitly stated that pricing will be announced on January 5th, and no official hints have been dropped. The current XUV700 ranges from Rs 13.66 lakh for the base MX 7-seater to Rs 23.71 lakh for the top-spec AX7L Ebony AWD variant.

Given the substantial cabin upgrades and new exterior design, expect the XUV 7XO to command a modest premium over the outgoing model. Industry estimates suggest a starting price around Rs 15 lakh, but treat this as speculation until Mahindra makes the official announcement.

The Bottom Line

The XUV 7XO represents Mahindra’s commitment to keeping its flagship SUV competitive in an increasingly crowded segment. Rather than a conservative update, this is a comprehensive refresh that addresses the areas where rivals have been catching up particularly interior technology and premium features.

With the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus all vying for attention in this space, the XUV 7XO’s triple-screen setup and enhanced comfort features could give Mahindra the edge it needs to maintain its strong market position.

January 5, 2026 isn’t far away. We’ll have full pricing, variant details, and hands-on impressions for you then.

Motors77 will update this article with official specifications and pricing once Mahindra reveals complete details at the world premiere.
