Kia EV2: Kia’s most affordable EV targets the B-segment with E-GMP platform, expected 350–400 km range, and €30,000 pricing

Kia has officially unveiled the first teaser images of the EV2, its smallest and most affordable all-electric SUV, ahead of its world premiere at the Brussels Motor Show on 9 January 2026. Positioned as the entry point into Kia’s global EV lineup, the compact B-segment crossover aims to make electric mobility accessible to a broader audience across Europe and other key markets.

The teaser release, announced on 2 December 2025 through Kia’s Global Media Center, confirms that the production model closely follows the EV2 Concept first showcased at Kia EV Day in Tarragona, Spain, on 27 February 2025. Speaking at that event, Kia CEO Ho Sung Song described the concept as “a bold step forward for urban mobility.”

Kia EV2 Design: Boxy Character Meets Modern EV Minimalism

The teaser images show the EV2 beneath a semi-transparent cover, revealing its distinctive silhouette and key design elements. Kia’s “Opposites United” design philosophy is evident throughout, blending playful, boxy proportions with contemporary electric vehicle styling.

Visible design cues include an upright front fascia with a squared-off nose projecting an SUV stance despite the compact footprint. Vertical daytime running lights deliver what Kia describes as “Star Map signature lighting,” flanked by muscular cladding and a pronounced skid plate. The gently sloping roofline flows into a roof-mounted spoiler, while low-set horizontal LED tail lamps echo the styling language seen on the Kia Syros.

At approximately 4,000 mm in length, the EV2 sits roughly 300 mm shorter than the EV3, reinforcing its positioning as the most compact model in Kia’s electric portfolio. The production version retains the concept’s youthful character while adopting a conventional B-pillar layout for regulatory compliance.

Platform and Expected Specifications

The EV2 is built on Kia’s dedicated 400-volt Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP), the same architecture underpinning the EV3, EV4, and EV5. This purpose-built EV platform distinguishes it from vehicles derived from internal combustion architectures, enabling more efficient packaging and superior electric-specific engineering.

While Kia has not officially disclosed full technical specifications, industry reports suggest two battery options will be available. The standard variant is expected to feature an LFP battery of approximately 42 kWh delivering around 300 km of WLTP range, while the larger NMC battery pack of 55–62 kWh could offer up to 440 km on a single charge. Most sources place the expected range between 350 and 400 km for mid-tier variants.

The powertrain configuration is expected to comprise a single front-mounted electric motor driving the front wheels, with no all-wheel-drive variant anticipated. The 400-volt architecture should support DC fast charging with 10–80% replenishment in approximately 30 minutes, consistent with E-GMP platform capabilities.

Interior: Practical Space in a Compact Package

Official interior images remain under wraps until the Brussels reveal, but Kia has emphasised a “roomy, adjustable space” within the compact footprint. The EV2 Concept showcased highly flexible seating arrangements, including sliding front and rear seats to optimise legroom or luggage capacity as needed.

The production model is expected to retain space-efficient packaging with a near-flat floor and smart storage solutions aimed at urban family use. A minimalist, tech-focused dashboard layout with large displays and connected car features is anticipated, prioritising usability over luxury in line with the vehicle’s entry-level positioning.

European Pricing and Competitive Landscape

Kia CEO Ho Sung Song has indicated a target price of approximately €30,000 for the European market, positioning the EV2 as a direct competitor to the Renault 4 E-Tech (€29,990), Citroën e-C3, and Hyundai Inster. This pricing would place the EV2 roughly €6,000 below the entry-level EV3, creating a clear value proposition for first-time EV buyers.

Marc Hedrich, CEO of Kia Europe, stated: “With the EV2, we reaffirm our commitment to make electric mobility truly accessible to a broader audience—without compromise.” Production is confirmed at Kia’s Žilina plant in Slovakia, with approximately 100,000 units planned annually by 2027.

India Market Outlook

Kia trademarked the EV2 name in India in October 2023, signalling consideration for the market. However, no official launch timeline has been confirmed. Industry speculation suggests a possible debut by late 2026 or early 2027, though this remains unverified.

If introduced, the EV2 would compete against established players including the Tata Punch EV and Nexon EV, as well as upcoming compact electric SUVs from Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai. Pricing and competitive positioning in India will depend heavily on localisation strategy, which Kia has not yet announced.

What Comes Next

The complete design, interior details, and confirmed specifications will be revealed at the Brussels Motor Show press conference on 9 January 2026. Sales in select European markets are expected to commence later in 2026.

With its combination of youthful design, practical range, purpose-built EV architecture, and accessible pricing, the EV2 represents Kia’s strategic move to democratise electric vehicle ownership. For buyers seeking an affordable entry into the electric era without compromising on modern technology and design, the EV2 warrants close attention.

Note: Specifications marked as “expected” are based on industry reports and remain unconfirmed until Kia’s official announcement. Pricing and availability may vary by market.
