The Citroen eC3X has launched in India at Rs 10.25 lakh, ex-showroom, and the big surprise is the price. Rather than going up, Citroen has made its electric hatchback cheaper, with the eC3X coming in around Rs 1.74 lakh lower than the outgoing eC3 it replaces. Launched on June 17, 2026, the eC3X is essentially the updated eC3 EV with fresh styling, more features, six airbags and a longer claimed range, all wrapped up with sharper pricing and a new Battery as a Service option.

This is a significant move in India’s budget EV space. Here is everything you need to know about the Citroen eC3X, including its price, range, charging, features and how it stacks up against rivals like the Tata Tiago EV.

Price And Battery As A Service

At Rs 10.25 lakh, the Citroen eC3X undercuts its predecessor by around Rs 1.74 lakh, a rare case of an updated car launching cheaper than the one it replaces. It is offered in three variants, Live, Live (O) and Shine, with the new Live (O) trim effectively replacing the old Feel mid variant.

The headline addition is the Battery as a Service, or BaaS, scheme. This lets buyers purchase the eC3X without paying for the battery upfront, bringing the starting price down to around Rs 6.3 lakh, after which a battery subscription of Rs 2.26 per km applies. It is worth noting that reported BaaS figures vary slightly between Rs 6.29 lakh and Rs 6.89 lakh depending on the source, so confirm the exact number at the dealership. Either way, BaaS dramatically lowers the entry cost and directly tackles the biggest barrier to EV ownership, the high upfront price.

Battery, Range And Charging

The Citroen eC3X carries over the familiar 29.2 kWh battery pack and a front mounted electric motor, but Citroen has improved the efficiency to extract more range. The motor produces 57 PS and 143 Nm, driving the front wheels through a single speed automatic.

SpecificationCitroen eC3X
Battery29.2 kWh
Motor power57 PS
Torque143 Nm
Claimed range (MIDC)325 km
0 to 60 km/h6.8 seconds
Top speed107 km/h
DC fast charging10 to 80 percent in 57 minutes
AC charging10 to 100 percent in about 10.5 hours

The big news is the range. Citroen now claims a MIDC certified figure of 325 km, an increase of 79 km over the previous model, despite the same battery size. The eC3X is built for relaxed, efficient driving rather than speed, with a 0 to 60 km/h time of 6.8 seconds and a top speed of 107 km/h. For charging, a DC fast charger takes the battery from 10 to 80 percent in 57 minutes, while a home AC charger needs around 10.5 hours for a full top up.

Design And Exterior

The eC3X gets a meaningful set of styling updates while keeping the familiar, likeable eC3 shape with its raised stance and SUV inspired cladding. The front now features LED projector headlamps with split LED daytime running lights, and LED fog lamps have been added too. It rides on new 15 inch diamond cut dual tone alloy wheels and retains contrast coloured skid plates at both ends for a rugged look.

Citroen is offering the eC3X in six colours, including Polar White, Steel Grey, Cosmo Blue, Perla Nera Black, Garnet Red and Deep Forest Green, along with electrically adjustable and foldable outside mirrors. The overall silhouette is unchanged, but the new lighting and wheels give it a noticeably more premium presence.

Interior And Features

Inside, the Citroen eC3X feels considerably more upmarket than before. There is a new dual tone blue and beige cabin theme with leatherette upholstery, addressing one of the old car’s weak points. The feature list has grown significantly and now includes a new seven inch TFT digital driver’s display, a wireless phone charger, an auto dimming inside mirror and a six speaker JBL audio system.

The 10.25 inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay carries over, now paired with Citroen’s Connected Car technology 2.0. A dashcam is also on offer, though some of these additions are available as accessories. Together, these upgrades finally give the eC3X the kind of equipment that budget EV buyers in India expect.

Safety

Safety sees a clear step up with this update. The top spec Shine variant now comes with six airbags, while the lower Live and Live (O) variants get four airbags. All variants come with ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors, and the eC3X also offers a rear parking camera on higher trims. Higher variants add features like a high speed alert system and speed sensitive auto door locks, making the eC3X a safer proposition than the car it replaces.

Rivals And Positioning

At Rs 10.25 lakh, the Citroen eC3X slots right into the affordable EV space and continues to lock horns with the Tata Tiago EV and the MG Comet. With BaaS lowering the entry price to around Rs 6.3 lakh, it can also tempt buyers looking at the Tata Punch EV. The eC3X’s trump cards are its longer claimed range of 325 km, its comfortable ride and cabin space, and Citroen’s aggressive new pricing. Where rivals like Tata still hold an edge is in brand reach and a larger service network, so Citroen will need to keep expanding to fully capitalise.

Why The Citroen eC3X Matters

The launch of the Citroen eC3X is important because it does the one thing that moves the needle in India’s EV market, it lowers the price. By making the updated car cheaper than before, adding meaningful features and safety, and introducing Battery as a Service, Citroen has made electric motoring more accessible than ever in this segment.

The eC3 was always praised for its space, ride comfort and value, but criticised for thin features and a plain cabin. The eC3X fixes those complaints while keeping the strengths, and then sharpens the price on top. For value conscious buyers who want a practical, comfortable electric hatchback without stretching their budget, the eC3X has just become a much stronger option.

Quick Pros & Cons

Here is the honest snapshot of the Citroen eC3X.

  • Comfortable ride and a practical, spacious cabin.

Cons

Motors77 Verdict

The Citroen eC3X is one of the smartest moves we have seen in the budget EV space in a while. By launching the updated car cheaper than before, Citroen has flipped the usual script, and when you add the longer 325 km claimed range, six airbags on the top variant, a much improved cabin and the Battery as a Service option, the eC3X suddenly looks like serious value. It keeps everything people liked about the eC3, the space, the comfort and the easy going nature, and fixes most of what they did not.

The honest caveats remain. The lower variants make do with four airbags, performance is built for efficiency rather than fun, and Citroen’s service network still trails Tata’s. Some of the nicer features are also cost extra as accessories.

At Motors77, our verdict is that the Citroen eC3X is now one of the most tempting affordable electric cars in India, especially for buyers who value range, comfort and a low entry price. With BaaS bringing the cost down to around Rs 6.3 lakh, Citroen has given budget EV buyers a genuinely compelling reason to walk into a showroom. It is a clear statement of intent in a segment that is only going to get hotter.
