Skoda has unveiled the Peaq, its new all-electric flagship, and the internet is already full of its global specifications. The Skoda Peaq is a seven-seat electric SUV with a range of over 640 km, lounge-like comfort and a long list of firsts for the brand. But beyond the global headlines, there is a more interesting question for buyers here at home: could the Skoda Peaq finally give Skoda a serious electric presence in India?

Skoda revealed the Peaq on June 23, 2026, against a mountain backdrop in France, as the new pinnacle of its electric range. While the car is built for Europe first, Skoda has confirmed it is looking at India, which makes this launch worth a closer look from an Indian point of view.

The India Angle: Is The Skoda Peaq Coming Here?

This is where it gets interesting. Skoda currently sells no electric cars in India, its global EV trio of the Epiq, Elroq and Enyaq has stayed away from our market. The Peaq could change that thinking. Skoda Auto India brand director Ashish Gupta has previously said the Peaq is on his radar, adding that the brand wants to bring a genuinely premium car rather than a bare-bones one at a high price, and that the ambition is to have Skoda’s global portfolio in India.

That is not a confirmation, and there is no timeline yet, so the Skoda Peaq’s India launch remains a possibility rather than a certainty. If it does come, it would most likely arrive as a CBU, or completely built unit, import, at least to begin with. For Skoda, which has built its Indian reputation on solid, practical petrol cars like the Slavia and Kushaq, a flagship electric SUV would be a statement of intent and a halo product to lead its EV story here.

Why Skoda Is Eyeing India

Skoda’s interest is not random. India is now one of the world’s fastest growing car markets, and its premium end is expanding as buyers trade up. The luxury electric SUV space in particular is taking shape, with cars like the Kia EV9, BMW iX and Mercedes EQ models proving that buyers will spend big on a high-end EV. Policy helps too, as EVs attract a low 5 percent GST against up to 50 percent for large petrol and diesel cars, alongside continued government backing for electrification.

There is a strategic angle as well. Skoda has openly stated its ambition to bring its full global portfolio to India, and it cannot do that without electric cars. A flagship like the Peaq would let Skoda enter the premium EV space at the top, build credibility, and pave the way for more affordable EVs such as the Elroq and Epiq later. In short, the Peaq would be less about volume and more about planting a flag.

How Much Could The Skoda Peaq Cost In India?

Pricing for India has not been announced, and as a CBU import the Peaq would not be cheap. For reference, in the UK the Skoda Peaq starts at around GBP 51,980, which is roughly Rs 65 lakh before taxes and duties. Once import duties are added for a CBU, the Indian price could climb well past Rs 1 crore.

That would place the Skoda Peaq directly against the Kia EV9, which currently sells in India for around Rs 1.30 crore. These figures are indicative only, and the real number would depend entirely on how Skoda chooses to bring the car in.

What The Skoda Peaq Offers

So what would Indian buyers actually be getting? Quite a lot. The Peaq is Skoda’s largest ever model and its first in the full-size SUV segment, essentially an electric, even roomier alternative to the Kodiaq. It is sold internationally in three variants.

VariantBatteryPowerDriveRange
Peaq 6063 kWh204 hpRWD459 km
Peaq 9091 kWh286 hpRWD647 km
Peaq 90x91 kWhDual motorAWDLong range

The headline is space and range. With over 640 km on the larger battery and seating for up to seven, the Peaq is built for families and long journeys. Skoda has also packed in comfort firsts like an optional Relax Package with massaging ergonomic seats, a Sonos sound system and a wellness app, turning the cabin into what Skoda calls a lounge on wheels.

Space And Practicality

Practicality has always been Skoda’s calling card, and the Peaq takes it to a new level.

MeasureSkoda Peaq
Length4,874 mm
Wheelbase2,965 mm
SeatsUp to 7
Boot (5-seat)935 litres
Boot (7-seat)299 litres
Frunk37 litres
Drag coefficient0.249

That 935 litre boot in five-seat form is the largest of any Skoda, and even with all seven seats in use there is still 299 litres of space, plus a 37 litre front boot for charging cables. A slippery drag coefficient of 0.249 helps it achieve that long range. For Indian families who value space above all, this kind of practicality is exactly the sort of thing that travels well across markets.

Design And Technology

The Peaq is the most complete expression yet of Skoda’s Modern Solid design language, first seen on the Vision 7S concept. It features the brand’s new T-shaped light signature front and rear, a gloss-black Tech-Deck Face with vertical slats and LED backlighting, and full LED Matrix headlights. It also brings Skoda firsts like flush, pop-out door handles and the brand’s largest ever panoramic roof with Dynamic Shade Control.

Inside, there is a fresh dashboard with a large central touchscreen, a digital driver’s display and a high-end Sonos sound system. On the technology front, the Peaq introduces Travel Assist 3.0 driver assistance, a 360 degree camera, one-pedal driving, a digital key for smartphone access, and bidirectional charging, which lets the car power external devices through Vehicle to Load or even feed energy back to a home. This is comfortably the most advanced Skoda yet.

Why The Peaq Suits Indian Families

Seven-seat electric SUVs are still rare in India, with the Kia EV9 the main option at this size, so the Peaq would face very little direct competition. Skoda’s reputation for space, build quality and practicality fits Indian family buyers perfectly, and the 640 km plus range answers the range anxiety that worries premium EV buyers. As a halo product, it would also lift Skoda’s brand image as the company finally enters the Indian EV space.

The Challenges It Would Face

The hurdles are just as real. As a likely CBU import, the Peaq would be expensive, probably north of Rs 1 crore, keeping it niche. Skoda also has no EVs on sale in India today, so it would be building EV ownership and charging support from scratch at the premium end, where buyers expect flawless service. There is also the question of whether enough buyers want a seven-seat electric SUV at this price with established luxury rivals circling.

Rivals

In India, the Skoda Peaq’s most obvious rival would be the Kia EV9. Globally, it lines up against the Hyundai Ioniq 9, Volvo EX90 and Peugeot e-5008. In each case, Skoda’s pitch is the same, more space and practicality for the money.

Quick Pros & Cons

Here is the honest snapshot of the Skoda Peaq from an Indian viewpoint.

Pros

  • Spacious seven-seat cabin with a class-leading 935 litre boot.
  • Long range of over 640 km on the bigger battery.
  • Loaded with comfort and technology firsts for Skoda.
  • Very little direct seven-seat EV competition in India.

Cons

  • Likely an expensive CBU import, probably above Rs 1 crore.
  • India launch is only under evaluation, not confirmed.
  • Skoda has no existing EV or charging presence in India.
  • A niche, low-volume product rather than a mass-market EV.

Motors77 Verdict

The Skoda Peaq is a genuinely impressive flagship, and while its global unveiling has been covered everywhere, the more meaningful story for us is what it means for India. With seven seats, a 935 litre boot, over 640 km of range and a cabin full of comfort and technology firsts, the Peaq plays exactly to Skoda’s strengths of space and practicality, now in a fully electric, premium package.

The honest reality is that an India launch is far from confirmed. There is no timeline, and as a likely CBU import the Peaq would be an expensive, niche product rather than a volume seller, with Skoda also entering the Indian EV space for the first time. Still, at Motors77 our verdict is that the Peaq would make a superb halo car for Skoda in India, a credible, spacious electric flagship to take on the Kia EV9. Whether enough buyers exist at this price is the big question, but it is one of the more exciting what-ifs in the Indian EV story. We will update this piece if Skoda confirms its India plans.
