The Tata Tiago has just received its biggest makeover in years. Launched in India today at a starting price of Rs 4.69 lakh (ex showroom), the 2026 Tiago brings a bold new design, a far richer cabin and a major safety upgrade to Tata’s most affordable hatchback. It arrived alongside the updated Tiago.ev, but it is the petrol and CNG Tiago that will matter most to value focused buyers.

This is the most thorough update the hatchback has seen in its decade on sale. With six airbags now standard, a big new touchscreen and a sharper face, Tata wants the Tiago to feel premium without losing its honest, easy going charm. Here is everything you need to know about the 2026 Tata Tiago, including price, specs, features and how it compares with rivals.

Tata Tiago Price And Variants

The 2026 Tiago is offered in six trims: Smart, Pure, Pure+, Pure+ A, Creative and Creative+, across petrol and CNG fuels with manual and AMT gearboxes.

Variant or TypePrice (ex showroom)
Petrol, entry (Smart)Rs 4.69 lakh
CNG, startingRs 5.79 lakh
Top variantUp to Rs 7.99 lakh

(All prices ex showroom India)

The Tata Tiago now spans roughly Rs 4.69 lakh to Rs 7.99 lakh. For now, Tata has announced prices for the manual variants, with pricing for some AMT versions still to follow. Even with a small increase over the outgoing car, the Tiago remains one of the most affordable proper hatchbacks you can buy, and the added kit makes the jump easy to justify.

What Is New In The 2026 Tata Tiago

The 2026 Tiago looks far more modern than before. Up front there is a redesigned fascia with sleek LED headlamps, eyebrow shaped LED daytime running lights, pixel style LED fog lamps and a cleaner grille. A camera pod sits neatly in the bumper for the new 360 degree system.

In profile, the Tiago gets new 15 inch dual tone alloy wheels, black wheel arches and camera pods on the mirrors. At the rear there are connected LED tail lights, a roof spoiler, a shark fin antenna and a reworked bumper. It is a genuinely fresh look that finally brings the hatchback in line with Tata’s newer cars, and it should age well thanks to its clean, uncluttered surfaces.

Tata Tiago Interior And Features

Step inside and the change is just as dramatic. The dashboard is flatter and more linear, the old instrument binnacle is gone, and there is a new two spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo. AMT variants even get a new rotary gear selector.

ConvenienceCooled glovebox, cruise control, connected car tech
ConnectivityWireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
Airbags6 standard
Other safety360 camera, ESC, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX, parking sensors

The big story here is value. Features like a 10.25 inch touchscreen, dual wireless chargers, rear AC vents and a digital driver’s display were unheard of in this segment a few years ago. Just as important is safety. The move to six airbags as standard, along with electronic stability control and a 360 degree camera, makes the Tiago one of the better equipped small cars for the money.

Engine, Mileage And Specs

Mechanically, the 2026 Tata Tiago carries over its proven and frugal powertrains, is which keep running costs low. There is no turbo option, so this remains a relaxed city car rather than a hot hatch.

SpecificationPetrolCNG
Engine1.2 litre 3 cylinder petrol1.2 litre twin cylinder iCNG
Power86 hp75.5 hp
Torque113 Nm95 Nm
Transmission5 speed manual or AMT5 speed manual or AMT
Claimed mileageAround 19 to 20 kmplAround 26 km per kg

The 1.2 litre petrol makes 86 hp and 113 Nm, while the twin cylinder iCNG version produces 75.5 hp and keeps the boot usable thanks to Tata’s dual cylinder layout. Both can be had with a five speed manual or an AMT automatic, and the AMT versions now get paddle shifters. The petrol is the smoother, peppier choice, while the CNG is the one to pick if low running costs are your priority.

Tata Tiago Dimensions

The facelift does not change the footprint, so the Tiago stays compact and city friendly while keeping its practical boot.

Dimension2026 Tata Tiago
Length3,765 mm
Width1,677 mm
Height1,535 mm
Wheelbase2,400 mm
Boot space242 litres
Ground clearance170 mm

At under 3.8 metres long, the Tiago is easy to park and thread through traffic, while a healthy 170 mm of ground clearance helps it deal with rough roads and speed breakers. The 242 litre boot is modest on paper but usefully shaped for daily errands and airport runs.

Tata Tiago vs Rivals

The budget hatchback space is small but competitive. Here is how the Tiago lines up against its main rivals.

RivalQuick Take
Maruti Suzuki CelerioMost fuel efficient, but basic on features
Hyundai Grand i10 NiosRefined and feature rich, pricier
Citroen C3Quirky and solid, fewer variants

The Tiago’s pitch is strong. Few rivals can match its new combination of six standard airbags, a big touchscreen and bold styling at this price. The Celerio counters with class leading mileage, while the Grand i10 Nios feels a touch more polished. On value and safety, though, the 2026 Tiago is right at the front.

Which Tata Tiago Variant Should You Buy?

With six trims on offer, here is a quick buyer guide.

  • Smart: the bare basics, best for tight budgets and fleet use.
  • Pure and Pure+: the value sweet spot, adding the key comfort features most buyers want.
  • Creative and Creative+: the ones to pick for the full experience, with the 360 camera, big touchscreen and dual wireless charging.
  • CNG variants: ideal for high mileage drivers chasing the lowest running costs.

Tata Tiago.ev Launched Alongside

Tata also launched the updated Tiago.ev at the same event, starting at Rs 6.99 lakh. The electric hatchback keeps its 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh battery options, now offering a claimed MIDC range of up to 285 km. Tata says it charges 40 percent faster than before, adding 100 km of range in around 18 minutes, while a 10 to 80 percent top up takes about 35 minutes on a 30 kW charger. The EV also gains six airbags and a 360 degree camera, and the 24 kWh version carries a lifetime battery warranty for the first owner. It remains Tata’s most affordable EV and rivals the MG Comet EV and Citroen eC3.

Quick Pros & Cons

Here is the honest snapshot of the 2026 Tiago.

  • Bold, modern new design that finally feels current.
  • Six airbags now standard, a big safety win.
  • Loaded cabin with a 10.25 inch screen and dual wireless charging.

Motors77 Verdict

The 2026 Tata Tiago is exactly the update this hatchback needed. For years the Tiago was the sensible, honest budget buy that had simply started to look and feel dated next to Tata’s newer cars. This facelift fixes that in one go, with a sharp new design, a genuinely modern cabin and a safety package that now leads the segment.

What makes it so appealing is that Tata has added all of this without abandoning the Tiago’s core strengths. It is still affordable, still frugal and still easy to live with every day. The lack of a turbo option and the modest boot are the only real compromises, and neither will bother the buyers this car is aimed at.

At Motors77, our verdict is that the 2026 Tata Tiago is one of the smartest small car buys in India right now. With six airbags as standard, a big touchscreen and a bold new look from Rs 4.69 lakh, it offers a level of value that is hard to beat. If you want a safe, stylish and economical first car, the new Tiago should be at the top of your list.
