Nissan Magnite CNG with AMT Option Launched In India, Nissan has expanded its CNG retrofitment program to include the Magnite with an automatic transmission option, marking a significant development in the budget compact SUV category. The introduction of the CNG-ready AMT variant addresses growing consumer demand for convenient and cost-effective urban mobility solutions.

Technical Specifications and Drive Experience

The Magnite CNG AMT utilizes a five-speed automatic transmission paired with the proven 1.0-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine, delivering 71 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. This powertrain combination balances performance with efficiency, offering smooth gear transitions suitable for daily city driving and highway commutes. The AMT system simplifies driving in congested traffic conditions while maintaining the fuel economy advantages of CNG technology.

CNG Retrofitment Program Details

Nissan’s CNG retrofitment solution, developed by Motozen Fuel Systems, is government-approved and comes with a comprehensive 3-year or 1 lakh km warranty. The retrofitment kit is priced at Rs 71,999 (MRP), with customers benefiting from the recent GST rate reduction from 28% to 18%. Installation is available exclusively through authorized Nissan service centers.

One notable improvement is the integrated fuel-filling system, which positions the CNG valve within the existing fuel lid, eliminating the requirement to open the engine bonnet for refueling—a significant convenience upgrade over previous retrofitment solutions.

Pricing and Variant Structure

The Magnite CNG is available across 11 variants, with prices ranging from Rs 6.34 lakh to Rs 9.70 lakh (ex-showroom). This pricing structure positions the vehicle competitively within the budget SUV segment while offering multiple configurations to suit varied customer preferences.

Geographic Availability

The CNG retrofitment program currently operates across thirteen Indian states, including Delhi-NCR, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and select regions of Uttar Pradesh. Prospective buyers should verify availability in their respective regions before purchase.

Market Context

The Magnite has maintained consistent sales performance, regularly exceeding 2,000 units monthly. The introduction of the CNG AMT variant represents Nissan’s strategic response to evolving consumer preferences, particularly among buyers seeking automatic transmission convenience combined with lower operating costs. This offering strengthens Nissan’s competitive position in a segment characterized by increasing feature expectations and cost consciousness.

Feature Set and Safety

The Magnite CNG maintains feature parity with its petrol counterparts, offering a comprehensive suite of technology and safety features designed for modern urban driving. The infotainment system features a 9-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, enabling seamless smartphone integration for navigation and entertainment purposes.

The 360-degree camera system provides enhanced visibility during parking and low-speed maneuvers, significantly reducing blind spots and improving overall safety perception. This feature is particularly valuable in congested urban environments where precision parking is essential.

On the safety front, the Magnite CNG is equipped with a six-airbag configuration, including dual front airbags, side-impact airbags, and curtain airbags. The vehicle also incorporates electronic stability control, hill start assist, and ABS with electronic brakeforce distribution as standard safety provisions. The structural rigidity is reinforced with a multi-point safety cell design.

Additionally, Nissan offers an extended warranty option (10-year extended warranty available on top of the standard 3-year plan), providing long-term ownership protection and peace of mind. This comprehensive warranty coverage reflects the manufacturer’s confidence in the retrofitment quality and overall vehicle durability. The combination of active and passive safety features, coupled with extended warranty protection, positions the Magnite CNG as a well-equipped option in its segment regarding occupant protection and long-term reliability assurance.

Conclusion

The Magnite CNG with AMT addresses a specific market requirement for practical, cost-efficient urban transportation without the operational complexity of manual transmission vehicles. With competitive pricing, government-approved retrofitment, and established Nissan service network support, this variant presents a viable option for buyers prioritizing fuel economy and transmission convenience within the budget SUV category.
